Truck rams motorcycle after minor altercation between drivers
A disturbing incident occurred last Saturday morning on Nguyen Xien Street in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, involving a motorbike ride-hailing driver and his passenger who were struck by a truck following a heated argument with the truck's driver.
The events unfolded when Tran Hang Nhi, the passenger, had booked a motorbike for her journey home from work. As they approached Nguyen Xien Street, the motorbike driver overtook a truck, triggering a confrontation with the irate truck driver.
According to Nhi, the truck driver honked loudly, verbally berated them, and even threatened physical harm. The motorbike driver, in response, asserted that their driving was normal and accelerated to maintain distance from the aggressive truck.
However, the situation escalated further as the truck pursued them and intentionally collided with the motorbike, causing both Nhi and the driver to fall onto the street. The truck driver promptly fled the scene, leaving the injured duo behind.
Fortunately, passers-by came to their aid, providing assistance. Notably, a car trailing behind the incident managed to capture the entire episode on its dashcam, potentially serving as crucial evidence for authorities investigating the incident.
This disturbing encounter highlights the risks faced by ride-hailing drivers and passengers on the road, underscoring the importance of addressing road safety and holding those responsible for aggressive driving accountable for their actions.
Nhi suffered a sprain while the driver escaped unhurt.
"I’m still in a state of panic," Nhi told VnExpress on Sunday.
"What the truck driver did was no different from intentional killing."
The ride-hailing company has complained to the police.
The police asked to keep the motorbike for the investigation, but he refused, saying it was his only means of livelihood.
The truck driver had not been identified as of Monday morning.
