NBC’s Kristen Welker met her match on her own channel after she tried to school Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, one of the country’s leading economic experts.

On Sunday, Bessent appeared as a guest on “Meet the Press,” and Welker quickly went into gotcha mode in an effort with a cheap trick to embarrass him and the entire Trump Administration.

Welker decided to play a month-old clip showing Trump promising to bring down grocery prices and then cherry-picking numbers showing supposedly higher prices for some goods.

She then demanded to know when grocery prices were finally going to fall.

Welker clearly insinuated that Trump had broken one of his campaign promises by making everyday items more expensive for Americans. The Democratic National Committee would be proud of her propaganda attempt.

But Bessent caught on to her act immediately and proceeded to school her with a great response that contained actual facts on inflation that she completely ignored.

Welker probably was not expecting this reply.

WELKER: We learned this week that inflation in September ticked back up to 3%. That’s the highest level since January. Take a listen to something President-ELECT Trump told me back in December.

Take a look (video clip plays):

TRUMP: When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price in a short period of time… We’re going to bring those prices way down.

(clip ends)

WELKER: When are all grocery prices going to come down, as President Trump promised?

BESSENT: Well, Kristin, as much as I like you, you like to cherry-pick. When we came in, it was ‘eggflation, eggflation, eggflation.’

Egg prices are down. Gasoline prices are down.

Overall, the inflation since President Trump has come in has come down.

We inherited this horrible affordability crisis from the Biden Administration. The first thing we had to do was get it under control.

This month’s inflation number was actually below the consensus number. If we look at core inflation, it was 0.2%, which was below as it’s been in a long time.

Rents are coming down. You know it, Kristen.

You don’t get to cherry-pick. Inflation is a composite number, and I am confident that in the coming months, inflation is going to come down.
