Default Cancer survivor wins three jackpots totaling $2.5M in nine months

A Canadian man who says he has beaten cancer has won three lottery jackpots since August 2024, with total winnings amounting to US$2.5 million.

Officials from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) confirmed that from August 2024 to May 2025, David Serkin from Alberta Province hit the jackpot three times.

He won $500,000 in August 2024, $1 million in November 2024, and another $1 million on May 3.

According to People, Serkin has now hit the jackpot four times since he began playing LOTTO 6/49 when it launched in 1982, with his first big win occurring over a decade ago.

Serkin shared that he bought his most recent winning ticket while filling up his car at a local gas station.

"I know the odds are astronomical. I don't think it'll happen again, but I still like buying tickets," Serkin was quoted in a press release by the WCLC.

He said his friends reacted to his latest win by exclaiming, "not again?!" during a coffee outing.

"I'm a cancer survivor and I'm retired, so I am just grateful for all of it," he said, according to the New York Post.

Serkin, who did not disclose the type of cancer or when he overcame it, said he plans to take his wife on a vacation to celebrate.

He added that they had "a wonderful time" when he took her to Hawaii after his previous win.
