I have read that gout occurs more in men than women. The first time I ever had it, my big toe first became itchy and there was like a big bump on it, then it swoll up. I thought may be I got bitten by a spider in my sleep, but until it became unbearable (throbbing pain feeling), I went to my doctor and learned that I had gout.
Just tell her that when she starts to feel tingly on the area that hurt, take aleve right away to stay ahead of it; that at least worked in my case
