1) Without the Philippines, the First Islands defense and containment strategies & tactics are widely over exposed & cut off at the knee cap

2) If China can convert the Philippines into an operational staging area, this will totally change the operational theater and with another 30 years passing, China will solidify her control of the SCS militarily & economically.
