Former RNC Chair Michael Steele Joins Pro-Biden Republican Group Lincoln Project

Former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele announced Monday that he is becoming a senior advisor to the Lincoln Project, a PAC comprised of anti-Trump Republicans that has run ads supporting former Vice President Joe Biden and Democratic Senate candidates.

The former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland and the first African American RNC Chair, Steele refused to endorse Trump in 2016 and has become a vocal critic of him and his administration.

In a statement, Steele slammed Trump for his “narcissism” and for “chaos and confusion” under his leadership, expressing a commitment to “resetting the course of our nation” and working towards a different future for the Republican Party.

“Michael is the man largely responsible for engineering the Republican victories of 2010, and ushering the party into the digital age,” Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson said in a statement, calling Steele’s entrance into the group a “privilege.”

Steele’s announcement is the latest in a series of Republicans denouncing Trump and announcing their support for Biden in recent weeks, with a group of 27 former GOP lawmakers endorsing Biden on Monday and former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) calling Trump “not conservative” and arguing that his behavior “has not and will not change.”
