Vẫn liên tiếp xuất hiện những cuốn sách viết về Chiến Tranh Việt Nam, tuy nhiên có rất ít sách đề cập tới quan điểm từ miền Nam, từ góc cạnh của những người thất trận nhưng họ đã từng chiến đấu và tin tưởng ở một nền Cộng Hòa miền Nam mới khai sinh.
Ngô Thế Vinh qua kinh nghiệm của một y sĩ trong một đơn vị Biệt Cách thiện chiến đã đem tới cho chúng ta những lý giải và soi sáng về những tình huống lưỡng nan ngoài trận địa.
Rồi ông cũng đề cập tới cuộc sống hỗn mang ban đầu của một người tỵ nạn tạo dựng lại cuộc đời trong sự xa lạ của một miền Nam California, với phấn đấu để trở lại nghiệp cũ giữa một cộng đồng di dân gồm cả nửa triệu thuyền nhân với những khuynh hướng chánh trị phân hóa đa dạng. Một bối cảnh như vậy hầu như hoàn toàn bị lãng quên trong văn học.
Người đọc sẽ thấy mình bị lôi cuốn vào tâm thức của một y sĩ tiền tuyến, của một tù nhân trong các trại tù gulag và rồi đến một người tỵ nạn bị bật ra khỏi gốc rễ được giải thoát để hội nhập vào một tầng lớp trung lưu Mỹ mới vừa hình thành.
Đọc Mặt Trận Ở Sài Gòn để cảm nhận lắng nghe nỗi bâng khuâng của một con người vẫn gắn bó với những cội rễ tinh thần của một quê hương Việt Nam không thể tách rời.
