Default Vietnamese users report access errors for Facebook pages

Facebook fanpages in Vietnam encountered errors on Sunday, leaving account owners unable to access their pages or post new content.
Hoang Kiet, an online business owner in HCMC, said problems with the social media platform began at around 10 a.m. Sunday. When he was trying to launch a livestream on his page, he received notifications saying he did not have the right to access the page or post content.

At first, he was worried that his account was hacked, so he contacted a service provider on Facebook for further inquiries.

The person said several other fanpages have reported the same problem, adding that it stemmed from Facebook's side and not due to hackers.

Thu Thuong, an administrator for a sport fanpage with over 100,000 likes, said she was notified that she did not have the authority to operate her page as usual, despite the fact that her page does not run advertisements or post sensitive content.

Mai Thanh Phu, a social media service expert, said the issue only appeared when account owners signed in on their PCs. Those signing in on their smartphones were less affected, he added.

He said Facebook would resolve the problem and users did not have to do anything.

Kiet said the problem had severely affected his online business.

"I did not only miss my chance of weekend sales, but I also had to inform my customers that the problem was due to Facebook," he said.

Data from Downdetector revealed that the number of users reporting Facebook-related issues has arisen since 9 a.m. 50% of them were related to web browser problems, 38% the Facebook application, and 12% signing in.

Other regions of the world also reported the problem, with several users on international forums saying they tried to lodge complaints to Facebook, but had yet to receive replies.

By 1 p.m., the error had not been completely fixed, with several users still being unable to access their page normally.

A representative of Facebook in Vietnam has yet to respond on the issue.
