Bà Alicia Sato, giáo viên cố vấn của em Lloyd cho biết em là học sinh ưu tú nhất trong 25 năm hành nghề của bà. Theo nhận xét của bà Sato thì em Lloyd rất có chí nhưng cũng rất khiêm nhường về kết quả học của mình cũng như kín đáo về hoàn cảnh gia đình vì mỗi khi nói đến thì em lại muốn khóc.

Cali Today News - Rất nhiều học sinh nghèo học giỏi từ trước đến nay được nói đến nhưng câu chuyện thành công của em Lloyd Chen ở Sacramento được xem là có một không hai.


Em Lloyd là thủ khoa tốt nghiệp năm nay tại trường trung học Laguna Creek, đã được nhận vào tất cảø các trường đại học ưu tú nhất tại Hoa Kỳ như Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkely, UC Davis, UC San Diego với học bổng toàn phần, tổng cộng lên đến 3 triệu đô la.

Lloyd sinh ra và lớn lên tại Sacramento trong một gia đình khá nghèo định cư từ Nam Hàn với người mẹ đơn độc và 2 chị gái. Cha của em rời bỏ gia đình chỉ ít lâu sau khi em Lloyd ra đời khiến cho mẹ em lâm vào tình trạng suy thoái tinh thần và sức khỏe nên mất khả năng làm việc. Chị của em Lloyd cho biết cả nhà sống bằng trợ cấp xã hội nhưng hết lòng đùm bọc nhau.

Trong một thời gian dài, mẹ của Lloyd hằng ngày phải chở con đi học cách nhà 20 miles vì đó là trường học gần nhất có chương trình nâng cấp. Bà ngồi ngoài xe chờ đến chiều để đón con về cho đỡ tốn xăng. Mãi đến năm lớp 11 thì mới có trường gần nhà dạy cùng chương trình cao cấp được xem là khó nhất trên thế giới IB (International baccalaureate) nên Lloyd mới chuyển về.

Em Lloyd kể rằng em cố gắng tập trung vào việc học vì cảm thấy không thích ứng với hoàn cảnh của những bạn giàu có. Trong thời gian này, 2 chị của Lloyd đều học xa nhà nên em còn có trách nhiệm trông nom, phụ giúp mẹ.

Chính bà Sato mới biết được gần đây và đã khuyên em Lloyd nên nói về chuyện của mình trong bài luận văn vào đaị học mặc dù em không muốn gợi lòng thương hại từ người khác. Vào tháng tư vừa qua các trường đại học ở xa đã gởi vé máy bay cho em Lloyd sang tham quan để quyết định lựa chọn trường.

Đúng vào dịp này, vụ nổ ở Boston xảy ra và em Lloyd đang ở tại trường MIT khi cảnh sát truy lùng nghi can và cô lập mọi người để lại một ấn tượng khá sợ hãi. Sự chọn lựa cuối cùng của em Lloyd là trường Harvard vì theo em đây là môi trường phát triển tốt nhất cho em và thành phố Boston thì tràn đầy sức sống. Em Lloyd sẽ đến đây vào đúng ngày sinh nhật 18 tuổi của mình.

Thì hơi nổ quá ...vì theo mình biết đó cũng chỉ là một chương trình không có gì khó khăn hơn cho lắm .Chỉ khác nó nặng về project hơn .

Rất chính xác.....
IB chỉ more project-oriented, học chẳng có gì khó khăn lắm, nhưng có điều là nhiều trường tuyển sinh vào chương trình học bằng entrance exam...

Đó là tổng số của tất cả các trường cho học bổng đem cộng chung lại. Nhưng cuối cùng thì học sinh chỉ chọn được có 1 trường. Và chọn trường nào thì sẽ được chỉ 1 học bổng của 1 trường đó là hết.

Gom chung lại thành tổng số 3 triệu là con số vô nghĩa, chỉ có đám viết báo mới làm như vậy nghe cho nó hào hứng.
