Theo báo cáo mới nhất của Tổng cục Quản lư xuất nhập cảnh và lưu trú Nhật Bản (ISA), Việt Nam đă vượt qua Hàn Quốc để trở thành cộng đồng người nước ngoài lớn thứ 2 tại Nhật Bản.
Số liệu cho thấy tính đến cuối năm 2020, có 2,89 triệu người nước ngoài tại Nhật Bản.
Trong số này, Trung Quốc chiếm nhiều nhất với 778.112 người, kế đến là Việt Nam với 448.053 người và Hàn Quốc với 426.908 người. Theo ISA, số lượng người Việt Nam tại Nhật Bản tăng hơn 10 lần trong ṿng 10 năm qua. Cộng đồng Việt Nam tại Nhật Bản trong năm 2020 tăng 36.085 người (8,8%) so với năm 2019, là cộng đồng duy nhất trong tốp 10 tăng lên.
Cơ quan này giải thích việc Việt Nam lần đầu tiên vượt qua Hàn Quốc là nhờ đợt gia tăng gần đây của lao động Việt đến Nhật Bản, chủ yếu là sinh viên và thực tập sinh.
According to the latest report by the General Department of Immigration and Residence of Japan (ISA), Vietnam has surpassed Korea to become the second largest expat community in Japan.

The agency explained that Vietnam overtook Korea for the first time thanks to the recent increase in Vietnamese workers coming to Japan, mainly students and interns.
