Melania Trump is said to be “quietly” renegotiating her prenuptial agreement with Donald Trump as he faces a string of criminal trials that could damage his finances.
The former first lady, 53, has been thrashing out the terms for more than a year in a bid to put her son Barron, 17, on a firm financial footing, New York’s leading tabloid claims.
“Trump remains very rich, but with mounting legal bills and judgments,” insiders told the New York Post, adding that the renegotiated prenup would “provide a more solid future” for the former model and Barron should the couple split,.
“It’s not that she threatened to leave him,” they insisted.
Mr Trump, 77, is facing mounting legal costs and a series of potentially expensive payouts as well as 91 criminal charges across four indictments.

The former president’s $250 million civil fraud trial is set to start next week, days after a judge ruled Mr Trump had repeatedly overinflated his assets and net worth by up to $2.2 billion. He has also been ordered to pay $5 million in damages for defaming EJ Carroll.
Mr Trump pleaded not guilty in the fraud case and is appealing the EJ Carroll decision.
“Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new ‘postnup’ agreement between herself and Donald Trump,” the source said.
It is thought to be at least the third time Mrs Trump has renegotiated the terms of their prenuptial agreement. The new deal will reportedly provide her with more money and property.
They said while Mrs Trump has no intention of leaving her husband, she is “most concerned about maintaining and increasing a substantial trust for their son, Barron”.
Another insider said she wanted the terms to “provide her with more money, and also... a specific amount at minimum that Barron is supposed to obtain”.
The Telegraph contacted a representative for Mr Trump for comment.
