The Afghans were initially evacuated from Hamid Karzai airport in Kabul to a base in the Middle East, and then on to other third countries.
According to the US Air Force, the plane flew at a normal altitude of more than 8,500 meters. Due to low air pressure, the woman goes into labor. The aircraft commander then decided to lower the altitude to increase the air pressure in the plane, helping to stabilize the health and save the mother's life.

After the C-17 landed at Ramstein base, military medical forces came to support the woman who gave birth to the baby right on the plane. The birth was successful, and both mother and child were taken to a nearby medical facility in good health.
General Josh Olson, commander at Ramstein base, said the base has a capacity of 5,000 people but is expanding to increase capacity to 7,500 people. The evacuation in Kabul was at times delayed because bases in the Middle East were overloaded, unable to accept more people, according to CNN.
Mr. Olson estimated the evacuees would stay in Ramstein for 48 to 72 hours. According to the agreement between the US and Germany, these people will not stay more than 10 days.
Since the end of July, the US has evacuated 22,000 people from Afghanistan, of which 17,000 have been taken since August 14.
