Trong tin nhắn trên Twitter trong đêm 01/10/2020, tổng thống Donald Trump thông báo ông và đệ nhất phu nhân Melania nhiễm Covid-19. Nguyên thủ Mỹ tự cách ly tại Nhà Trắng, nhưng vẫn tiếp tục lănh đạo đất nước. Đây là một bước ngoặt quan trọng hơn một tháng trước bầu cử tổng thống Hoa Kỳ.


Tổng thống Mỹ Donald cùng phu nhân, bà Melania Trump, sau cuộc tranh luận đầu tiên với ứng cử viên đảng Dân Chủ Joe Biden, ngày 29/09/2020, tại Cleveland, bang Ohio. AP - Julio Cortez

Theo thông cáo của Nhà Trắng, có nhiều khả năng tổng thống Trump và phu nhân bị lây nhiễm từ một trong những cố vấn thân cận nhất của ông là bà Hope Hicks. Bà Hicks đă tháp tùng nguyên thủ Mỹ trong chuyến bay đến Ohio tham dự cuộc tranh luận tay đôi Donald Trump-Joe Biden hôm Thứ Ba 29/09/2020 và sau đó bà tiếp tục cùng tổng thống đến bang Minnesota tham dự các cuộc vận động tranh cử.

Bác sĩ chính của nguyên thủ Mỹ cho biết hiện tại « tổng thống và phu nhân khỏe mạnh ». Theo thông tín viên Eric de Salve của đài RFI, việc Donald Trump bị dương tính với virus corona kéo theo những hệ quả chính trị nghiêm trọng :

« Một kịch bản tai họa trong chiến dịch vận động của Donald Trump. Một phóng viên của đài truyền h́nh CNN nhắc lại từ nhiều tháng qua, tổng thống Hoa Kỳ liên tục giảm thiểu tầm mức nghiêm trọng của dịch Covid-19. Ông từ chối đeo khẩu trang và vẫn tham gia các cuộc meeting với hàng ngàn người tham dự, bất luận các khuyến cáo của các giới chức y tế. Giờ đây Donald Trump đă phải thông báo ông và phu nhân bị lây nhiễm tương tự như khoảng 43.000 người dân Mỹ khác trong ṿng 24 giờ qua. Cả hai đều đang tự cách ly tại Nhà Trắng.

Tổng thống và phu nhân cho biết vẫn mạnh khỏe. Thế nhưng Donal Trump thuộc diện có sức khỏe dễ bị tổn thương, do năm nay ông đă 74 tuổi và lại bị bệnh béo ph́. Trên đài truyền h́nh CNN, nhà báo kỳ cựu Carl Bernstein chỉ trích thái độ thiếu trách nhiệm của tổng thống Trump trong xử lư khủng hoảng bệnh dịch, việc phủ nhận tầm mức nghiêm trọng của Covid-19 làm nguy hại đến an ninh quốc gia. Điều này giờ đây trở thành thách thức trọng tâm của chiến dịch vận động tranh cử, do có thể dẫn tới những hậu quả vô cùng to lớn.

Donald Trump trong tuần đă xuất hiện trên đài truyền h́nh với Joe Biden, 77 tuổi, tại Cleveland nhân cuộc tranh luận tay đôi đầu tiên. Cũng trong cuộc tranh luận này tổng thống Trump đă chế nhạo đối thủ, v́ ông Biden đeo khẩu trang. Donald Trump cũng đă tiếp thẩm phán Amy Coney Barrett trong pḥng Bầu Dục hôm Thứ Ba vừa qua, làm việc với phó tổng thống Mỹ, Mike Pence. Nhiều cộng tác viên thân cận với tổng thống Trump th́ đă làm việc với lănh đạo đảng Dân Chủ ở Hạ Viện, Nancy Pelosi, 80 tuổi.

Đây thực sự là một bước ngoặt quan trọng trong cuộc vận động tranh cử tổng thống Hoa Kỳ. Một số nhà b́nh luận thậm chí đặt câu hỏi, 30 ngày trước bầu cử, liệu có thể tiếp tục chiến dịch vận động tranh cử nữa hay không ?».

Bắc Mỹ : Quebec bước vào vùng « báo động đỏ »

Hoa Kỳ trong ngày 01/10/2020 ghi nhận thêm hơn 43.000 ca nhiễm Covid-19. Theo thống kê của đại học Johns Hopkins cứ trên 100 người được xét nghiệp tại Mỹ, có 2,6 trường hợp dương tính với virus corona. Canada cũng đang trong t́nh trạng lo ngại không kém. Trong tuần có thêm hơn 1.500 bệnh nhân, chủ yếu là tại hai vùng Ontario và Québec. Số ca tử vong tại Québec đạt ngưỡng cao nhất kể từ giữa tháng 6/2020. Thành phố Montréal và vùng Québec bị đặt trong t́nh trạng « báo động đỏ ».
