Breaking News:while LA County declares state of emergency with six new cases & US death toll hits 11

One thousand people who may have come into contact with a New York attorney who infected his wife, two children and a neighbor with coronvirus have been ordered to self-quarantine as the US death toll rises to 11.

The number of coronavirus cases in New York has now jumped to six after the wife, two children and neighbor of a Manhattan attorney who is currently hospitalized (above) with the disease all tested positive

In total, 11 people have now died from the COVID-19 coronavirus across the country as the number of confirmed cases has soared to more than 140.

Nine of the deaths have occurred in Washington state while California recorded its first death on Wednesday.

Health officials in Los Angeles County - which has about 10 million residents - also declared a health emergency on Wednesday after six new cases were confirmed in less than 48 hours, bringing the total in the city to seven and raising the California state case figure to 35.
