Chiều ngày thứ Bảy, 4-4-2020, Tổng thống Trump nói rằng ông đă đưa 1000 nhân viên y tế của quân đội đến New York để chống dịch COVID-19. Nhưng ông không nói rơ là lực lượng nào được ông ra lệnh đến New York.

Tại New York đă có 1200 nhân viên y tế của chiếc tàu bệnh viện The Comfort của quân đội, ngoài ra c̣n có 2700 binh lính của Vệ binh quốc gia New York đă được huy động.

New York là nơi có nhiều người bị nhiễm và thiệt mạng v́ COVID-19 nhất nước Mỹ. Trong ngày thứ Bảy, 4-4-2020, có 630 người chết. Tuy nhiên ông Andrew Cuomo, Thống đốc tiểu bang, cho biết rằng có dấu hiệu New York đă vượt qua đỉnh của dịch bệnh, nhưng ông cũng cẩn trọng nói rằng vẫn chưa biết chắc. Theo ông Cuomo, có hai phần ba số người nhập viện v́ COVID-19 tại New York đă được xuất viện.

Vừa qua ông Cuomo đă có nhiều chỉ trích cho rằng Liên bang đă không giúp đỡ ǵ nhiều cho New York trong việc cung cấp các trang thiết bị y khoa. Ông Jared Kushner, con rễ ông Trump, người được cho là đang điều phối các hoạt động chống dịch sau hậu trường, trả lời báo chí rằng các tiểu bang thiếu trang thiết bị th́ tự xoay xở lấy, c̣n trang thiết bị của Liên bang là để cho… Liên bang.

Ông Trump nói với báo chí hôm thứ Bảy 4-4-2020 rằng ông Cuomo không biết ơn ǵ cả trong khi Liên bang rất rộng răi với New York.

Cũng trong ngày thứ Bảy ông Cuomo cho biết là tiểu bang ông sẽ nhận được 1000 máy thở được Trung Quốc tặng, và hơn 100 cái khác từ tiểu bang Oregon.

Thống đốc Cuomo nói hiện nay ở New York có 85 ngàn thiện nguyện viên y tế tham gia việc chống dịch, trong đó có 22 ngàn đến từ các tiểu bang khác. Ông cũng đă kư một sắc lệnh cho phép các sinh viên y khoa chưa tốt nghiệp được tham gia chống dịch.

Andrew Cuomo announced that the Chinese government is facilitating a donation of 1,000 ventilators to New York, which has been struck hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Cuomo said the ventilators will arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City later on Saturday.

Cuomo thanked Joseph and Clara Tsai — who own the Brooklyn Nets, Barclays Center and Alibaba — as well as Jack Ma, co-founder of Alibaba, for helping with the donation. He also thanked the Chinese Counsul General Ambassador Huang for “his help in making all of this happen.”
