State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs delegation visits Canada

Deputy foreign minister Lê Thị Thu Hằng, who is also Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, said that the feedback from the community reflects their constant connection to the homeland and their desire to contribute more to the country.

A delegation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA), led by Deputy Foreign Minister Lê Thị Thu Hằng, conducted meetings with Vietnamese communities in both the Eastern and Western regions of Canada during their working visit from August 24-27.

In these meetings, the delegation provided updates on various policies and laws that affect the rights and interests of Overseas Vietnamese (OVs). These updates included information on the Land Law, Housing Law, Law on Real Estate Business, and Law on Citizen Identification. The delegation also addressed issues concerning Vietnam's seas and islands, discussed programs aimed at supporting Vietnamese expatriates, and highlighted opportunities in human resources.

The delegation informed the participants about annual activities organized for OVs in Vietnam and encouraged them to contribute their opinions to the law-making process and the drafting of other political documents.

Nguyễn Hoài Bắc, a Vietnamese-Canadian entrepreneur with investments in Vietnam, expressed that the information shared by the delegation was valuable, demonstrating the Party and State's efforts to create favorable policies for the overseas Vietnamese community.

Julie Nguyen, President of the Canada-Việt Nam Trade Council, noted that the delegation's visit provided an opportunity for OVs to propose initiatives to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Canada and Vietnam. She also mentioned proposals related to domestic policies that could facilitate OVs' investments in Vietnam and suggestions for connecting Canadian businesses with Vietnamese companies. Additionally, Nguyen highlighted the potential for offering Canadian-standard vocational training to Vietnamese workers seeking legal employment in Canada.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hằng, who also serves as Chairwoman of COVA, acknowledged that the feedback from the Vietnamese community in Canada reflects their ongoing connection to their homeland and their eagerness to contribute further to the country's development.

During the visit, the delegation also met with representatives of the 88 Supermarket chain, which is actively working to connect with businesses in Vietnam to export Vietnamese goods to Canada.
