Tìm thấy Covid-19 trong nước sông ở Ấn Độ

Theo tờ India Today, các nhà nghiên cứu thuộc Học viện Công nghệ Ấn Độ (IIT) và Đại học Khoa học môi trường Jawaharlal Nehru đã tìm thấy dấu vết của SARS-CoV-2 gây Covid-19 trong các mẫu nước lấy từ sông Sabarmati, cũng như tại 2 hồ Kankria và Chandola (đều thuộc thành phố ở thành phố Ahmedabad, bang Gujarat).
Giáo sư Manish Kumar thuộc IIT cho rằng việc nước sông hồ có sự hiện diện của virus gây Covid-19 có thể dẫn tới các nguy cơ nguy hiểm tiềm tàng.
Các nhà khoa học cũng đang muốn mở rộng nghiên cứu sang các sông hồ khác trên khắp Ấn Độ để đánh giá nguy cơ. Hồi đầu tuần này, Karnataka trở thành bang đầu tiên ở Ấn Độ đưa ra hệ thống giám sát nước thải tại thành phố Bengaluru nhằm xác định các cụm dịch Covid-19 tiềm tàng.

Ấn Độ vừa trải qua đợt dịch có sức tàn phá khủng khiếp làm hàng ngàn người tử vong vì Covid-19 mỗi ngày. Nhiều bang đã ghi nhận tình trạng thi thể nạn nhân Covid-19 không được hỏa táng mà bị thả trôi trên sông Hằng. Hình ảnh được ghi lại cho thấy hàng trăm thi thể trôi trên sông. Một số địa phương còn phải giăng lưới để vớt thi thể.


According to India Today, researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Jawaharlal Nehru University of Environmental Sciences have found traces of SARS-CoV-2 causing Covid-19 in water samples taken from the river. Sabarmati, as well as in the two lakes Kankria and Chandola (both in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat).
Professor Manish Kumar of IIT said that the presence of the virus that causes Covid-19 in rivers and lakes could lead to potentially dangerous risks.
The scientists are also looking to expand the study to other rivers and lakes across India to assess the risk. Earlier this week, Karnataka became the first state in India to introduce a wastewater monitoring system in the city of Bengaluru to identify potential clusters of Covid-19 outbreaks.

India has just experienced a devastating epidemic that kills thousands of people from Covid-19 every day. Many states have recorded that the body of Covid-19 victims was not cremated but was floated in the Ganges River. Images were recorded showing hundreds of bodies floating in the river. Some localities even had to spread nets to retrieve bodies.
