Vietnam has recorded 6,192 new coronavirus infections in 58 cities and provinces across the country during the past 24 hours, an increase of 562 cases compared to the previous day.

Official figures released by the Ministry of Health (MoH) at 06pm on November 3 also showed an additional 79 people have died and 8,869 more patients have recovered from the disease.

Ho Chi Minh City remains the epicenter of the current outbreak in Vietnam as it registered 985 more cases.

It was followed by other southern localities such Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Kien Giang, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Can Tho, Binh Thuan and Long An that reported 100 to 900 cases each.

The outbreak seems to be returning to the north as various localities registered new cases. MoH statistics show that the past 24 hours saw Ha Giang detect 118 cases, Hanoi capital 76, Phu Tho 50, Bac Ninh 48 and Bac Giang 32.

Notably, LG Display Vietnam suspended a workshop in Hai Phong after one of their workers tested positive on November 3. Relevant agencies are scrambling to take measures to halt the spread of the virus I the factory.

Elsewhere, new infections forced many localities nationwide such as Buon Ma Thuot, Phu Tho and Hai Duong to close schools.

Meanwhile, the south-central province of Ninh Thuan registered to add 914 cases to the MoH’s database. These patients had been documented in the previous days.

As of 06pm on November 3 Vietnam has confirmed 939,463 COVID-19 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020, ranking 40th out of 223 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, 833,675 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.

Vietnam has also recorded 22,283 deaths, making up 2.4% of the total number of infections.

About 84 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, with 25.6 million people getting their second shot.
