COVID-19: Daily caseload and death toll all rise in Vietnam

Vietnam has recorded 12,450 new coronavirus infections and 164 new deaths in tens of cities and provinces across the country during the past 24 hours, up 640 and 39 cases respectively compared to the previous day.


Vientam is speeding up COVID-19 vaccinations for both adults and children.

Official figures released by the Ministry of Health (MoH) at 06pm on November 25 showed an additional 5,627 patients have recovered from the disease.

Of the newly-detected infections, 6,842 cases were documented in the community through random testing or test screening.

Most of the cases were reported in the south, with Ho Chi Minh City – the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam - registering 1,582 cases.

Other southern localities recording high numbers of infections over 24 hours were Can Tho 741, Tay Ninh 683, Binh Duong 678, Ba Ria - Vung Tau 658, Bac Lieu 617, and Dong Thap 609.

The outbreak remains complicated in the north, with the capital city of Hanoi topping localities with 264 new cases. It was followed by Ha Giang 135, Bac Ninh 122, Hoa Binh 64, Thai Binh 60, Vinh Phuc 64, and Nam Dinh 42.

As of 06pm on November 25 Vietnam has confirmed 1,168,288 COVID-19 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020, ranking 37th out of 223 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, 942,888 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.

Vietnam has also recorded 24,407 deaths, making up 2.1% of the total number of infections.

Nearly 115 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, with 46 million people getting their second shot.
