Ngày 6/10, Thượng viện Mỹ đã thông qua đề nghị của Tổng thống Donald Trump bổ nhiệm ông Brett Kavanaugh giữ chức Thẩm phán Tòa án Tối cao. Cuộc bỏ phiếu ông này là một trong những cuộc bỏ phiếu cam go nhất trong hơn một thế kỷ qua.


Thẩm phán Brett Kavanaugh trong phiên điều trần tại Ủy ban Tư pháp Thượng viện Mỹ ở Washington, DC, ngày 5/9/2018.

Động thái trên diễn ra trong bối cảnh xuất hiện nhiều cáo buộc nhằm vào ứng cử viên này.
Với tỷ lệ bỏ phiếu 50-48, Thượng viện Mỹ đã xác nhận ủng hộ ông Kavanaugh giữ chức Thẩm phán Tòa án Tối cao giữa lúc hơn 1.000 người biểu tình phản đối ông ở Washington.
Trước đó ngày 5/10, Thượng viện cũng đã bỏ phiếu ủng hộ ông Kavanaugh.
Dự kiến, cùng ngày ông Kavanaugh sẽ tuyên thệ nhậm chức.
