Khách sạn ở Chicago của cựu Tổng thống Donald Trump đang sử dụng nước từ sông Chicago để làm mát ṭa nhà một cách không phù hợp, vi phạm các quy định về bảo vệ môi trường, một thẩm phán ở Illinois đă ra phán quyết trong tuần này.


Phán quyết bắt nguồn từ một vụ kiện năm 2018 chống lại Trump International Hotel and Tower ở Chicago, The Washington Post đưa tin. Biện lư Illinois đă lập luận rằng tài sản của Trump sử dụng 19 triệu gallon nước mỗi ngày từ sông Chicago để làm mát tài sản và trả nước trở lại sông ở nhiệt độ ấm hơn.

Thẩm phán Sophia Hall của Ṭa án Quận Cook, người đă quyết định vụ việc, cho biết một h́nh phạt sẽ được quyết định vào một ngày trong tương lai.

Theo Washington Post, văn pḥng Biện lư Illinois đă yêu cầu thẩm phán phạt tiền tối đa có thể: 50.000 đô la cho hai vi phạm cộng thêm 10.000 đô la mỗi ngày sử dụng nước sông Chicago trái phép.

Với những vi phạm xảy ra từ năm 2017, chuỗi khách sạn của cựu tổng thống có thể bị yêu cầu nộp phạt 12 triệu USD, The Chicago Tribune đưa tin . Tuy nhiên, nó nói thêm rằng tiền phạt cao như vậy cuối cùng khó xảy ra.
